College is incredibly intimidating, and being a Christian in college can come with its fair share of challenges. So today I want to share a few quick tips for young Christian women going to college that I wish someone would have told me!
1. Be intentional about where you look for friends
Where you find your friends will often determine the quality of your friendship and whether they will be someone who lifts you up or brings you down.
Freshman year can be lonely and anxiety-inducing, trust me, I get it. I've been there! But although your heart desires friendship and connection, I want to encourage you not to sacrifice the quality of your friendships just for the sake of convenience.
Go to places that build you up to look for friendships. Church, campus organizations, small groups, the cafeteria, the involvement browse, classes, and so on.
2. Know your values
Reflect & pray about what you truly believe. This is your first time living away from your parents and will present lots of new obstacles and adventures. Be firm in who you are and what you stand for.
There will be plenty of opportunities in college for you to do absolutely everything opposite of your values. Don't let this be you! The world is tempting, and it is a fruit that, while occasionally shiny on the outside, is always sour on the inside. Honestly speaking, from experience, there is so much more purpose in our lives than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
3. Converse with the random people you meet on campus
You never know where you will meet your new best friend! So try your best to push yourself out of your comfort zone justtt a little bit and to strike up a conversation with the stranger in line for food in the dining hall or at your new student organization.
Truly, this is how I have met all of my very best friends!
I hope this post helped give you a few quick and easily applicable pieces of advice to take with you into your freshman year of college! For more college tips, check out How To Find Christian Community In College or 5 Crucial College Tips I Wish I Knew.
