what is a rush resume?

A rush resume is a resume that is not like one you would use for a typical job or work application. A rush resume is specifically for sorority recruitment, and it is designed to provide an aesthetically pleasing list of your experience, accomplishments, information, etc.

These sorirty women are looking for young women to add to their chapter who are driven, accomplished, passionate, and servant-hearted. Ultimately, they are looking for well-rounded young women who care about their academics, are genuinely interested in joining their sorority, and who will likely want to be involved in college.

It gives the sorority members a brief synopsis of who you are and what you love to do, so they can best prepare for you during recruitment.

What to make sure to put on your resume

  • Headshot (Use a professional and/or classy headshot for this. The headshot is essential; it is their first impression of you. It doesn't necessarily have to be professional, but if not, grab a friend and take classy headshots just on your phone.)
  • Contact Information (List your contact information so sororities can reach out to you or send you information in the mail about their chapter.)
  • Education information (High School, College you will be attending, GPA, ACT/SAT, etc.)
  • Greek Affiliations (This is a list of anyone you are IMMEDIATELY related to that is involved in Greek Life anywhere in the country. This could be mom, brother, grandmother, cousins, etc.)
  • Extracurricular Activities (Provide a list of what you were involved in in high school. Clubs, sports leadership positions, etc. Show off all that you do here!)
  • Service/Volunteer Experience (Provide any volunteer and service experience you may have.)
  • Work Experience
  • Honors/Awards/Accomplishments

How to make a rush resume

To make my resume, I used Canva. It worked absolutely flawlessly and is great because you can curate it to represent your personality and style. You can use a template by searching "Sorority Rush Resume" or just "Resume" and tweaking it as you like.

The completely made-up example I have shown above is an excellent example of what it should look like. Feel free to use whatever color and text you like, just make sure you don't add too many unnecessary stickers or anything like that.

What is a rush resume for?

A resume is a comprehensive list of your accomplishments, education, and so on that you will submit on the Panhellenic website when you register for sorority recruitment. You will likely submit this along with a video and your answers to a few short questions.

Additionally, you will use this when you send out your recommendation letter requests. If you need help with EXACTLY how to do that, be sure to check out How To Get Sorority Recommendation Letters.

How long should my RUSH resume be?

Honestly, not more than one page, maybe two, is ok, but I highly recommend trying to keep it down to one page. Adjust the font and sizing to try to keep it condensed.
