20 Affordable and Festive Fall Activities To Do in Autumn

Hey, y'all! My name is Isabella, and I’m a college student learning how to navigate adulthood right alongside you!! Today, I will tell you some affordable things to do with friends, family, or your significant other in the fall.

I can’t lie; I’m already in the mood to get bundled up, start rewatching Gilmore Girls, drink hot coffee, and make yummy fall treats! So, if you're anything like me and ready to start getting in the fall spirit with some fun things that aren't just going out to dinner, keep reading!

Free things to do!

  • Hiking
    • Aside from this being free, it is also so good for you to hike and get outside! Fall is my favorite weather and presents a wonderful time to go outside. The leaves will be changing and I’m confident it will be a gorgeous hike.
  • Stargazing
    • It's also free! You can even get an app that identifies the constellations and have fun finding them. I have done this before, and it is honestly so much entertaining. It made me feel like a little kid again.

Things to do out!

  • Drive-in movie
    • So much fun!! I have been to one and always wanted to experience it. It is a bucket list adventure idea for sure! Once it gets just chilly enough to leave all the windows down and the trunk open it will be absolutely idealistic.
  • Pumpkin patch
    • A staple, of course, but still so much fun!!!
  • Farmers market
    • This is one of my favorite things to do whenever I can find one! First of all it is fantastic to get your groceries straight from the source and to support a small business. And second of all they are just so stinking cute and so enjoyable to wander around looking at all the different vendors.
  • Apple picking
    • This could be such a fun day trip! Google a farm near you offering apple picking, grab your friends, and go explore!
  • Flea market
    • This would 100% be part of my ideal relaxing weekend. Being able to hunt for a potential thrift flip is so much fun! And it prevents you from having to buy something new.
  • Get pumpkins from Walmart or local grocery stores, somewhere cheap, and carve them.
    • A must-do! There are so many fun events in fall, and this is definitely one of the staples! Grab a pumpkin, carving kit, garbage bags, sharpie, paper towels and get carving!
  • Make cookies and deliver them to your friends or family
    • This is something my friends and I used to do when we were bored in high school! First of all, you get to make and eat cookies. And second, you get to see your sweet friends to deliver the cookies and put a smile on their face! Especially if there isn't much else to do in your hometown, this is a great way to spread joy.
  • The Fair/Fall Festival
    • In my hometown, we love the fair! It is not always the most sanitary place…but it is genuinely just so fun to ride rides and eat sugary foods and feel like a little kid.
  • Picnic
    • A picnic can be enjoyable in practically any season but once the weather starts to cool off a picnic is a wonderful way to get outside and admire the new colors of the season. This is also very budget friendly because you can simply bring a blanket and whatever food you already have.
  • Karaoke
    • Once it gets too cold to go outside this is SUCH a fun thing to do and will keep you entertained all night. Grab a friend or big group and go make some memories!
    • Again, once it cools off it will be perfect weather for an outdoor concert or to simply so watch live music at a restaurant near you.
  • Live music/concert
    • Again, once it cools off it will be perfect weather for an outdoor concert or to simply so watch live music at a restaurant near you.

Things to do at home!

  • Halloween movie marathon
    • Make a list of your favorite Halloween/fall movies, grab some snacks and blankets, and cozy up for a binge-movie night! It's a very affordable thing to do, especially if all of the movies are already free!
  • Host Friendsgiving
    • For the hostess girl! You can grab cheap decorations from Dollar Tree, Target, or Hobby Lobby and ask your guests to each bring one dish/dessert. This is an effective way to still host a Friendsgiving and not break the bank. Pitnertest has some absolutely precious decoration ideas for this.
  • Have a cozy game night with fall treats.
    • Cozing up at home is one of the best things when it gets cold outside and one of the cheapest things to do. You can ask each person you invite to bring their favorite game to play! You can even add snacks or ask people to bring one of their favorites!
  • Cooking competition
    • This is unique and great stay at home option for once it gets cold! Also, a great idea if you have health or dietary restrictions and struggle with finding places to eat out. Try out a recipe you've been eyeing, and have fun with whoever you do it with!

Food-related things to do!

  • Make a fall-themed treat and have a movie night.
    • Make a fun fall treat like carmel apples, pumpkin pie, fall themed muddie buddies, or  halloween brownies.
  • Cook a new or unique cozy meal/dessert, try something new!
    • Try something new!!! Pix something new to try to cook with a friend or significant other than feels like fall to you.
  • Make smores and hang out around the fire.
    • A staple but this is one of the best ways to enjoy a yummy snack and spend time with loved one.

With Love,

Isabella XO
