How To Put Together The Perfect Sorority Recruitment Outfits

Hey, y'all! My name is Isabella, and I’m a college student learning how to navigate adulthood right alongside you!! Today, I will tell you how to assemble the perfect sorority recruitment outfits!

Sorority recruitment is already a stressful process; there is no need to worry about your outfit!! Don't stress if you still need to pick out your outfits! My mom and I took a girls' trip to a huge shopping mall to pick out all of my outfits, and we only went at the end of July before my freshman year! Remember to let your personality show through your outfits & accessories, but don't overthink your outfits. Just be yourself, and you will find your home! I hope these tips help you feel confident and calm. Feel free to contact me at thepearsonpost00@gmail.com with any questions. I want to be here for you!!

  • Plan your outfits ahead of time according to the recruitment schedule.
    • Every school does recruitment differently. You should be able to find the recruitment schedule and information about what to wear for each round through the Panhellenic Council at your university. Use this to plan your outfits ahead of time according to their loose dress code to eliminate stress.
  • Be you and wear what you feel comfortable in.
    • Follow the parameters for what to wear for each round, but add your flair. This is not the time to pretend to be someone you're not; you want to find your home and your people! Let your style and personality show. Wear clothes that you feel confident and beautiful in! It will help you feel more at ease. Ultimately, you want to be remembered for who you are more than what you wear.
  • You don't have to buy any new clothes.
    • Don't be afraid to wear clothes you already have! Especially if you haven't worn them before, haven't worn them in a while, or just need to save money. The sorority girls will not remember if you have worn one skirt before from your Instagram. Regardless, this is great for saving money. You don't have to buy new clothes if you have clothing that fits the parameters.
  • You can re-wear your dresses.
    • Along with my previous statement, you don't have to have a new outfit for each day. Older girls told me this, but I was too scared to do this. I prepared three different outfits for each day of philanthropy and three different outfits for sisterhood. Once I started going through recruitment, I realized I could re-wear outfits, because you only go to each house once a day and they won't see you other than that. I decided to re-wear one of my shorts for philanthropy and one of my dresses for sisterhood. I wanted to wear what I felt the most confident in, and this is what I recommend.
  • Buy clothes that you will wear outside of the recruitment process.
    • If you plan on buying new clothing, make sure to buy clothes you will wear outside of the recruitment process. For example, on philanthropy days, you will wear shorts or skirts with the recruitment t-shirt that was provided to you. My best advice about these is to get shorts, skirts, or dresses you can wear outside of rush!
  • Don't wear your Apple Watch.
    • This is considered the same as taking your phone to a party, which is frowned upon. Either opt for bracelets instead, or just don't wear it!
  • Do the sit test.
    • Make sure you can sit in your shorts, skirts, or dresses. While doing so, make sure they still have respectable coverage and that you still feel comfortable in your outfit. Each sorority does its parties differently, so you might be sitting in some and standing in others. Also, a little tip: whether sitting or standing, remember to maintain good posture at parties!!
  • Choose comfortable shoes.
    • As I previously stated, each party will be different. Therefore, ensure you are comfortable in your outfit, especially your shoes. I went for the "beauty is pain" route, and my feet were literally numb at the end of a 45-minute party where I was standing. They are adorable but could be better standing shoes, so make sure whatever you choose is practical for sitting or standing. Just be careful of what you choose!
  • Keep it classy.
    • This is your first impression. When a girl picks you up at the door, how you look is the first thing they will see. That said, fingertip length or longer for dresses is a good rule of thumb, especially in this scenario. You want to be remembered first for your personality but also for respectful outfits, not how revealing or risque your outfit was. Still, show your style, but this is a time to dress modestly. No cut-outs are also a good rule of thumb to avoid your clothing being risque. If you are questioning if your clothing is too revealing or too tight, etc., it is better to just steer clear of it.
  • Think of a respectable church outfit/dress.
    • Wear an outfit you would wear to a dressy church with all of your family members. So something classy, put together, and modest.
  • Have fun with accessories.
    • Add a headband, wear a cute belt with your shorts if needed, or wear a statement necklace. You could also match your shoes to your earrings. Have fun with your outfit in a unique way while still being classy and conservative. This can add flair to your outfit and help you stand out memorably and positively! Playing it more classic with your dress and having your personality shine through accessories is always safe.
  • You don't have to wear black for preference round.
    • You don't have to wear black for the preference round; many people didn't when I went through last year. But I love a classic outfit, and I think a black dress with the right accessories can be simply adorable. However, if you don't feel confident or comfortable in black, don't wear it. You want to feel good!
  • Below are my outfits, where they are from, and links!
    • I absolutely loved all my outfits and have re-worn every item I bought for rush, outside the recruitment process. I got the majority of my pieces on sale. A tip for finding your outfits is to go to nice department stores like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Dillards, and Saks Fifth Avenue and find exactly what you like and what size fits you. Then, take a picture and search for it using Google Image Search or look it up by title to find the cheapest location to buy it. Also, check out online resellers such as Poshmark and Curtsy. For jewelry be sure to check out Ex Voto Vintage and Susan Shaw for some absolutely stunning and classic statement pieces, they're some of my favorites! Click on the images to check out the links!! I also linked below the shoes I paired with my outfits. You got this! Be confident, be yourself, and try to have fun. You will end up where you are meant to be!
