Being a firm believer in Christ and also experiencing seasons of feeling spiritually stuck or burnt out is incredibly normal. Not knowing what to do when you feel like your faith is no longer growing is normal.
You're not alone, and you're not a bad follower of Jesus. Don't forget that! Today I am going to tell you exactly what to do when you feel spiritually stuck or burnt out, and give you tips on what I find works for me, and I hope will help you too!
1. Reassess how you spend time with God
Do you hurry through your quiet time to get on with your day? Do you talk to Him throughout the day or only at night when you read your devotion?
Ensure you are doing what works for you and your personal relationship with God. Not just what you think you should do or what "looks good" to other people. I have friends who connect with God most frequently through worship music and prayer walks to talk to God. But I connect with God most frequently when I am journaling my prayers and sitting in silence with God. Everyone is different! Don't compare yourself!
That is part of what makes Him such an intentional and loving Father, how he relates to us all individually.
2. Think about where you spend most of your time
We often get distracted by all the many things that we have to do and places we have to be. It can become easy to push off our relationship with God or simply go through the motions by attending church every Sunday.
If God is the number one priority in your life, would your calendar reflect that?
And trust me, this is a hard pill to swallow and something I am still very much working on myself. Review your calendar and to-do list, and consider how you allocate your time. Are you doing things that would fill you up & bring you closer to God?
And no, I'm not saying everything you do has to be spent in direct reflection with God, BUT I'm saying it's a balance: are you spending your time doing things that HONOR God and all that He has provided you with? For example, could you be working out or going for a walk instead of scrolling on TikTok?
3. Reflect on your heart posture - Are you expectant?
Do you have a heart posture that expects him to show up, to answer your prayers, and to equip you, or have you become complacent and indifferent? I find that this sometimes happens to me when I go through an extended period where I feel like I can't see or hear him.
When you spend your time with Him, in whatever way you choose, are you fully present and expectant for him to move and answer your prayers? Or are you following a routine and just checking a box?
It is essential to have a heart posture that trusts God will answer your prayers and a heart that is expectant for Him to show up, even in the small, mundane things.
4. Reframe your thinking
I recommend that you do the reflection I previously discussed, and when doing so, try to reframe your thinking. Think about what God could be teaching you in this season. Could he be strengthening your patience, faith, or hope in this season?
I truly hope this post helped you know that you are not alone in this season and that you WILL come out of it! And chances are that your faith will be stronger than before. Above all else, prioritize your time with God and trust that He uses every season of your life and faith journey for good!
With Love,
Isabella XO
