Hey, y'all! My name is Isabella, and I’m a college student learning how to navigate adulthood right alongside you! Today, I am going to tell you Exactly How To Take Notes On Each Chapter In Sorority Recruitment as a current SEC sorority girl.
1. Take notes after each visit.
I had a physical notebook with me for this exact purpose. Still, I found that right when I came out of a party, I just wanted to write down as much as possible about the house as fast as possible so I wouldn't forget anything.
So, I switched to taking notes on my phone because I could type much faster! This is a preference thing.
Write down...
- Your first impressions.
- Did you think the active members looked cute & classy or not?
- Did you feel comfortable?
- Did it feel genuine, or was the conversation forced?
- Do you feel like you matched their "vibe"?
- What specifically did you like or dislike about it?
- Did anything feel off?
- How did you feel when entering the chapter? Were you excited, nervous, or indifferent?
- How did you feel when leaving the chapter? Were you happy, relieved, or indifferent?
- Do that chapter's values align with yours?
- Is the chapter involved in things you're interested in?
- If you got a bid from that house, how would you feel?
I recommend picking out a few of the questions I listed above beforehand that you feel will best help you determine your rank of each house.
2. Create a ranking system.
I found giving each house an overall ranking helpful!
I considered their sisterhood, philanthropy, campus involvement, how I felt there, their values, the quality of the conversation, and if I had a genuine connection with any of the members when making my ranking.
3. Write down the names of who you talked to.
Be sure to jot down as many names as you can remember of the people that you met in that party.
It's ok if you forget some! It is helpful in case you talk to them again during another party to show you were genuinely engaged and interested the first time you met, but it is not essential.
4. Write down how you FEEL in the house.
The most important step!!!! How did that chapter make you feel?
Truly consider if that chapter made you feel seen, cherished, and special. Did they make you feel like they truly wanted you there? Did you feel like you may want to be there? Or did you feel uncomfortable and out of place?
I hope these simple little tips help you prepare for sorority recruitment! Focus on remaining unbiased to each chapter and just on choosing where you feel the most appreciated and at home.
