Overwhelmed by sorority recruitment? I get it! I'm a current SEC sorority girl here to give you all of the tips and advice on sorority recruitment that I looked for and could never find. Sorority recruitment can be overwhelming so I hope these tips will help prepare you for sorority rush.

Hey, y'all! My name is Isabella, and I’m a college student learning how to navigate adulthood right alongside you!! Today, I will give tips and advice for sorority recruitment, including 10 sorority recruitment do's and don'ts!!

DO: Take care of yourself.

Take care of your health! Prioritize eating well, getting plenty of sleep, and taking your vitamins. Overall, make sure that you will be able to put your best foot forward into every house and will feel your best. Recruitment can be a long and draining process so this is crucial.

DON'T: talk poorly of any houses.

Do not talk negatively about anyone you have talked to or any of the houses unless it is to someone you trust to share your recruitment process with, like your mother or sister. You have no way of controlling who shares the comments you make so be careful what you say.

DO: keep an open mind.

Try your best to forget any preconceived notions of which sorority you think you want. Go in with an open mind! You never know which houses might surprise you. Pick the place where you truly feel most at home and appreciated, not the place you think you want.

Don't: overshare with others.

Do not overshare about which houses you like or which houses you don't like. You never know who knows who and can easily tell an in house sorority girl something negative you said.

Additionally, don't talk about one sorority when you're in another sorority house! This is a big no-no!

DO: Put your all into it.

Show up fully and put on your A-game every day of recruitment. You are meeting new people in every house, so no matter how exhausted or upset you may be, prioritize carrying yourself well, being fully engaged in your conversations, and being your authentic self!

Don't: Talk about the 5 B's.

The 5 B's are essentially the 5 things you want to avoid discussing during sorority recruitment. They are boys, booze, ballots, bucks, and belief. You shouldn't talk about these things during sorority recruitment, not because they are inherently bad but because they are not appropriate for sorority recruitment.

Boys: Don't talk about boys. This means not to talk about how you are excited to go out and meet frat boys or how you can't wait to go to date parties with your boyfriend finally. There is nothing wrong with these things; however, sorority recruitment is not the place to discuss them. Sorority Rush is where you can find a sisterhood of true friends! Not for you to talk about boys 🙂

Booze: Don't talk about booze. Don't talk about drinking, the bar, frat houses, etc. These sorority girls are looking for a well-rounded, kind, genuine, personable, and classy young lady. Talking about drinking does not fall under classy.

Ballots: Don't talk about ballots. Do not overshare your political opinions regarding who you vote for or what political figures you think should win. There is nothing wrong with having strong political beliefs; however, it is not appropriate to share them. Talking about an interest in politics, in general, is an exception. For example, if you want to work in politics or are interested in politics.

Bucks: Don't talk about bucks. Do not brag or flaunt money or status. This is incredibly classless and does not portray you in a good light. Just be cautious of what information you share to ensure you do not appear to be bragging.

Belief: Don't talk about beliefs. This is part of the 5 B's; however, this is advice that I took with a grain of salt. My faith is fundamental to me, so it was necessary to decide which sorority I would join.

DO: come prepared

Make sure you pack all of the essential items for your long days of sorority rush. This is crucial to ensure you stay primped and fresh throughout all rounds of sorority recruitment.

Don't: Take getting dropped personally.

Sorority recruitment will be hard, and there will be disappointment. I don't want to sugarcoat it for you. However, the recruitment process does work and you will find a home that you love. I firmly believe everything happens for a reason because it is part of God's plan for your life, so take courage in the fact that He has a perfect plan laid out for it. When your "plans" fall apart is often when His plans fall into place.

Do not compare yourself to others. You are a unique individual; therefore, you will bring something new to whatever chapter is lucky to have you.

Lastly, remember that sorority recruitment does not define you. This is only a tiny portion of your life, and it will be what you make of it, so have fun!
