TIPS for packing your car bag

It doesn't have to be expensive to get these things! Use what you already have, or go grab the basic car essentials at Dollar Tree.

Also, as I mentioned in the title, I find it easiest to keep all of my hygiene & personal care items and extra items in a bag in my glove compartment to easily access them.

I chose a bag with three compartments to separate my items in a way that made it easier to find everything, which I highly recommend.

Hygiene & personal care

Hairbrush or comb

Be sure to keep a travel hairbrush or full-size hairbrush in your car just in case you get a hankering to drive with your windows down right before a nice dinner. 🙂

No, but seriously, I use mine all of the time. Sometimes, it is so windy that my hair turns into a rat's nest right before I grab lunch with someone, so this is one car essential that I use regularly.

I keep a full-size hairbrush in my car that I just picked up at Dollar Tree, but I have linked my favorite travel-sized hairbrush that I often keep in my purse.

Feminine Products

This is self-explanatory, but seriously, it is one of the most important items to keep in your car because you definitely do not want to find yourself needing these and not having them.

Throw a few of your favorite brands of pads and tampons into your car bag, and make sure you keep it stocked!

Gum or mints

Throw your favorite gum or mints into your center console to freshen up before arriving at your destination.

Assortment of medicine

Keep travel sizes of whatever kind of medicine you find yourself needing the most.

For example, travel size Advil, Tums, Tylenol, Midol, and more. The best part of filling up your car bag is that you get to customize it specifically to your needs!

Deodorant

Need I explain this one? These travel spray deodorants are compact, easy to store, and allow quick application in your car.

Makeup

I highly recommend keeping at least a few basic touch-up products in your car bag.

I keep mascara, an eyelash curler, concealer, and lip gloss in my car simply because those are the only products I find myself touching up my makeup with. Adapt your car bag to your favorite products.

Perfume Roller

A travel perfume roller is perfect for quickly freshening up after a long day.

Of course, pick any perfume roller that you like. However, I have linked my favorite perfume below for anyone interested!

Hand sanitizer

If you don't have hand sanitizer in your car already I highly recommend you add it to your car bag.

It's so helpful to make sure you stay healthy and a staple for the essential stops in the Chick-fil-A drive-through!

Dental floss

This is so helpful for those pesky meals that leave you with food stuck in your teeth. Definitely don't want to be walking around like that!

Dry Shampoo

This is the perfect car essential to keep in your car to freshen up or for those events that just pop up out of nowhere especially when you're unprepared.

Travel toothbrush & toothpaste

I always like to keep this on hand in case you have a moment to freshen up in a bathroom or have to spend the night somewhere in an emergency.

I like that these are foldable to keep the toothbrush sanitary and to make it easier to store. Pick up some toothpaste at the Dollar Store to keep with it.

Mouthwash

This is my favorite mouthwash brand, and it is available in this perfectly adorable pink travel-size bottle.

I highly recommend this brand!

Lotion

I always like to keep a lotion bottle in my car because you never want to be caught looking dry and ashy!

I just picked up a little travel-size tube at the Dollar Store.

Hair ties

This is my favorite brand of hair ties, and I highly recommend it! They don't break or stretch out too quickly so they are long lasting.

And it comes with so many for only around $5!

Lip gloss/Chapstick

Covergirl yummy gloss is my staple! I love it and keep these lip gloss tubes everywhere, so I always have them on hand. My favorite color is the "Havana Good Time," which I have linked below.

Of course, adapt this however you prefer. Keep lipgloss, chapstick, or lipstick in your car. Maybe even throw in a lip liner if you often find yourself reaching for it.

Tissues

It is self-explanatory and just a good essential to keep in your bag.

Car maintenance

roadside assistance kit

I have this exact roadside assistance kit! I love it, and it is perfect for what I needed, which was just the essentials. I got this for my 16th birthday and it has quickly become a staple in my car.

It includes all of the basic necessities to keep in your car in a condensed kit, which is perfect for someone who wants to be prepared.

I also appreciate that this comes with a first aid kit because you never know when you may need one.

tire pressure gauge & air pump

These are staples to keep in your car so that you can immediately tend to your tie when the tire pressure light comes on.

The gauge is to check your tire pressure to know how much air you need to add into it to bring the pressure up to the required number.

The air pump is to pump the air into the tires. You can pick these items up at your local auto shop!

spare tire

Most cars will come with a spare tire but it is essential to make sure that you have one and to know where it is stored in case you need it.

Ideally you will never have to use it but you will always have it on hand. They are usually stored under your car or in the storage compartment in your trunk.

extra

wet wipes

You never know when a road trip snack will leave you with sticky fingers! This is also just one of those essential items to have that can be used to clean up any mess.

lint roller

I genuieunly use my lint roller every time I get into my car. This is such a must if you have pets!

I just picked up a travel size one a Target but I have linked an alternative.

Umbrella

Keep some rain gear on hand, just in case! I love this umbrella brand it is very sturdy and gets the job done.

sunscreen

Taking care of your skin is so important! This is a great item to keep on hand especially if you are someone who likes to spend their time outside whether that's walks, the lake, the beach, or yardwork.

I highly recommend the brand Supergoop! All of my sunscreen products are from them. You can also just pick up an affordable sunscreen at Walmart or the Dollar store.

sunglasses & cleaner

I keep my sunglasses in my car simply because I don't wear them anywhere else, but you could keep a backup pair in your car if you forget yours.

If you always have to clean off your glasses or sunglasses, then a glasses cleaner spray and cloth would be handy to keep on hand!

earbuds

I always keep the corded earbuds in my car. I seriously love music and find myself in so many situations wishing I had my earpdus when I forget them. For example, the gym, I am incapable of workout out without music!

They're only $15 so this is an item I love to keep in my car.

I truly hope this post helped you feel prepared to take on the world by ensuring you have these essential items in your car! If you enjoyed this post, I bet you would enjoy Etiquette To Be A Good Houseguest For The Holidays.
